Installing JET 6530 on your workstation

JET 6530 installation depends on your workstation system type:

  • For a Windows 98, Me, NT, 2000 or XP system:
    • Download the JET 6530 self-extracting archive, jet6530.exe, to your disk
    • Run the self-extracting archive, jet6530.exe, by double clicking it.
    • Follow the on screen instructions. Note: JET 6530 now automatically includes your licence details in the JET6530Key.jlk file in the "applet" sub-directory. It includes a licence key that expires. Licence details for JET 6530 versions prior to 3.2A are not compatible with versions 3.2A and onwards (and vice versa). Platypus Partners will make new licence details available upon renewal of your Annual Licence Fee.
    • Select Start -> Programs -> JET 6530 -> Launch JET 6530. Your default browser will start and open the page that loads the JET 6530 applet.
  • For a Unix/Linux system:
    • Create a new JET directory on your workstation
    • Copy the JET 6530 tarred, jet6530.tar, or tarred and gzipped, jet6530.tar.gz, archive into your JET directory
    • From your favourite shell, gunzip, using the command: gunzip jet6530.tar.gz the archive if required. Untar it using the command:
          tar -xvf jet6530.tar
Note: JET 6530 now automatically includes your licence details in the JET6530Key.jlk file in the "applet" sub-directory. It includes a licence key that expires. Licence details for JET 6530 versions prior to 3.2A are not compatible with versions 3.2A and onwards (and vice versa). Platypus Partners will make new licence details available upon renewal of your Annual Licence Fee.
    • Using your JavaTM enabled browser open the Shortcut.htm file in the applet directory. This page loads the JET 6530 applet.
  • For a Mac OS X system:
    • Download the JET 6530 zip archive, jet6530.zip.
    • Usually the zip archive will automatically be unpacked to create a "jet3270 Folder" on the desktop. If not use Stuffit Expander to unpack the archive.
    • Using Internet Explorer open the Shortcut.htm file in the applet folder in the "jet3270 Folder". This page loads the JET 6530 applet.

Installing JET 6530 on your web server

  • Download one of the JET 6530 archives to your workstation.
  • Expand the archive into a temporary directory on your workstation.
  • Examine the "Readme.txt" file for a description and complete listing of the files in the distribution. Check all files are present and have the correct size.
  • Examine the "Release Notes.txt" file for information on this version of JET 6530.
  • Examine the file Shortcut.htm for a sample web page which will load the JET6530 applet.
  • Transfer the following files from the applet directory to the web server:
    • JET6530Key.jlk (Your licence key file)
    • JET6530.cab (distribution unit for Internet Explorer)
    • JET6530SU.jar (SmartUpdate JAR file for Communicator)
    • JET6530E.jar (JAR file for Communicator and other environments)
    • updateJET6530.js (JavaScript source for Communicator)
    • bell.au (audio file)
    • jet164.jpg (JET logo image file)
These are binary files, except for updateJET6530.js, so set the binary option if your file transfer package supports it.
  • To allow a user to load the JET 6530 applet you have three choices:
    1. Transfer Shortcut.htm in text or ascii mode to your web server.
    2. Create a new web page and insert the required HTML to load the applet.
    3. Edit an existing web page and insert the required HTML within the page.
  • Restart your machine. Some browsers store loaded applets in their memory and automatically use the stored versions even if you click on Reload or clear the disk or memory cache.
  • Using your JavaTM enabled browser, specify the URL of the web page which loads the JET 6530 applet.

Installing the JETGuard Secure Proxy Server on your NonStopTM Himalaya server

If you want to run secure, encrypted sessions to your NonStop Himalaya server, you need to install and run a Secure Proxy Server. A Secure Proxy server works by receiving SSL or TLS connections from JET 6530 clients, and relaying the data on those connections to & from the TN6530 server via a non-secure connection. A Secure Proxy server is necessary because Compaq's TN6530 server does not provide support for SSL or TLS connections.

JETGuard is a Secure Proxy Server from Platypus Partners that runs as a NonStop process pair in the Guardian environment on your Himalaya server. This document describes installation of JETGuard.

Note: If you do not already have this software, please contact sales@platypuspartners.com or visit the Platypus Partners web site.

  • Download the JETGuard Secure Proxy Server archive to an empty directory on your workstation or PC.
  • Extract the files from the archive by either running the self-extracting archive (Windows environments), or using gunzip & tar programmes (Unix/Linux environments).
  • Transfer the file to a Guardian subvolume on your NonStop Himalaya system using FTP. You can use a command line FTP programme with the ftpxfer file provided with the distribution. Edit the ftpxfer file, and specify your NonStop IP host name, Guardian user name and password. Then, from a command prompt, type:
        ftp -n <ftpxfer
The ftpxfer file automatically stores the files in the $SYSTEM.JETGUARD subvolume. Note that, when you use the ftpxfer file as described above, you may receive "error 11" messages when attempting to delete non-existent jetguard and openssl files. You can safely ignore these messages. If you want to store JETGuard in a different subvolume, you should edit the ftpxfer file accordingly. If you wish to use a GUI-based or non-FTP transfer programme, ensure that you transfer the files: GOPROXY, CERTCONV, INSTALL, README, TESTCERT, TESTCFG and LICENCE.JLK files in ascii mode. The JETGUARD and OPENSSL files must be transferred in binary mode.
  • From a TACL prompt on your NonStop server, change to the subvolume in which you chose to store JETGuard, and type:
        run install
This will set the filecodes of the executable files JETGUARD and OPENSSL to 700.
  • Follow the steps in the Configuration section of the manual to configure and start JETGuard
